At only 16-years-old, Alex Cabral is an impressive early talent. With a long history of live performances, she’s now playing the recorded music game, causing quite a stir on her social media. Following the recent release of a dancy, fizzy, hip-hop-infused banger, ‘Sleep All Day’, we decided to sit down with her to find out more about the American’s singer artistry. Interview below!
YMX: Hey Alexa, how is it going? some of our readers might not be familiar with your project, how would you describe yourself, in a few words?
ALEXA: For many who may not know me, I’m a 16-year-old independent artist who loves to play guitar, piano, write music, and perform at any chance I get.
YMX: Your current work is the result of a long journey; What first drew you to making music?
ALEXA: At the age of 10, I decided to challenge myself by getting out of my comfort zone. My sister was in singing lessons at the time and she inspired me to get up on the big stage and be as good as she was.
YMX: What would be your dream collaboration?
ALEXA: My dream collaboration would definitely have to be Justin Bieber. I feel like our voices would mix well and I’ve always been a fan since I was a kid. I really can relate to his music and I understand it.
YMX: You recently released the dancy banger ‘Sleep All Day’. Can you tell us how that project came about?
ALEXA: I originally recorded my first song, which will be coming out late Spring early Summer 2021 with the producers of “Sleep All Day” a couple of months before this project. I met them through mutual connections and they introduced “Sleep all day” as a second song and it immediately stuck with me.
YMX: What inspires your songwriting work?
ALEXA: Witnessing certain events or even feeling emotions that are relatable to me and other people often inspires me to grab a pen and paper and write.
YMX: We are all missing live music at the moment. Once on the other side, which music venue would you choose for your first gig?
ALEXA: I would 100 percent choose to perform at Hampton Beach, New Hampshire for my first show. It has an amazing crowd and a large stage to move around on. The acoustics are another major thing that stands out.
YMX: What’s your band strategy in terms of music promotion? Direct-2-fans or via the “big dogs”?
ALEXA: My strategy in terms of music promotion is by promoting directly to fans. I use social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Snapchat and YouTube to share my music updates.
YMX: Finally, what are your plans for the future?
ALEXA: I have a release plan for another song and music video coming out sometime this year, and plan on recording original music that I initially wrote over quarantine. Over the summer and fall, I’m going to perform in several regional and national competitions and events. I hope to build my playlist enough so that I can play for hours to entertain the audience at a live show.
