XY GALA is a hip-hop artist from Rome, Italy, currently based in London, UK, who has developed a strong passion for music since adolescence, when he then left it mainly Hip-Hop, Trap and Rock to inspire him. He graduated in Contemporary Music, until, just during this year, he did not understand that it was finally time to start creating his way as a solo artist. XY GALA has already had experiences in different bands, both in Italy and in the UK, but today he is ready to let us listen to his first song as a soloist titled “Fighter“. In this piece the artist talks to us about all those people who care more about their appearance than about their inner person, often chasing an ideal that does not really exist. And so, through melodic sounds and a mix of different musical influences, XY GALA makes us listen to its brand new track!!

YMX: Hey XY GALA, thanks for sitting down with us. What would you say to all our readers new to your project?

XY GALA: Hey, XY here! I’m an up and coming Hip-hop artist who just released his debut single “Fighter” and this is just the beginning!

YMX: When did you know that music was something you wanted to pursue at an artistic level?

XY GALA: Music has always been an important part of my life. During my teens, I’ve started to play the drums for fun, with a band made up of friends. Later on, with my improvements I started to get recognition from other bands, therefore I started to gain both live and recording experience. That was probably the moment I realised that I could do something with music.

YMX: You recently released “FIGHTER“. Can you tell us how that project came about?

XY GALA: Yes, you are right! I’ve released my debut single “Fighter” on April 17. This project was born about a couple of months ago. In the past, I’ve always been performing as a band member but I always wanted to create a solo project, therefore I used the time at home during the most recent lockdown to fully work on this project and here we are!

YMX: What is the one thing you would like people to feel while listening to the single?

XY GALA: Writing music is something that comes naturally to me. I’m not saying that is easy, because there are weeks in where I could write 3 songs and weeks of blank papers…I’m more an emotional writer rather than a methodical (mathematical) one, therefore I try to give to the audience the emotions that I was feeling right at the moment while I was writing, through my music itself. The main message that I want to deliver with “Fighter” is to always be yourself in every situation, don’t act like someone that you’re not, for the liking of other people!

YMX: How did the recent pandemic influence your creative process? is remote collaboration easy for you?

XY GALA: I always try to extract something positive out of every situation. During this pandemic, the positive aspect for me has been having time to think, meditate and begin this new project. Remote collaboration is a helpful tool for artists, especially in this complicated period. Personally, I prefer the face to face approach, but I won’t have any problem collaborating remotely with someone even in the future.

YMX: Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

XY GALA: I definitely feel more confident in writing music by myself. As I said before, to write music I need to be in the right state of mind and the fewer distractions I have the better. Don’t get me wrong, in the past, I had the chance to co-write a song with a bandmate, but when I write alone there is something different, emotionally speaking.

YMX: Can you name the last gig you played? Would you consider doing a livestream concert?

XY GALA: Being a new artist, I never had the chance to perform live under the name of “XY GALA” yet. I would definitely consider performing in a live stream event.

YMX: Finally, what are your plans for the future?

XY GALA: I’m planning to release at least 4 more singles for this year and then take a short/creative break to focus on an EP of 5-6 tracks to release in 2022. I’m also planning to collaborate with up and coming artists from other countries in the near future. In terms of performing live, I was thinking about this fall.
