Rebel Muzik is an American DJ, international producer, writer and singer from New York. His leading musicians are artists such as Maggiore Lazer, Kygo, Kshmr; the DJ, with his sounds, manages to range through a wide variety of instrumental sounds, then landing in house music. For this last track we want to talk about today called “Body language“, Rebel Muzik collaborated with the singer and songwriter KNVWN, known on social media last November. The song was produced by Rebel Muzik and written and performed by KNVWN. The lyric speaks of the instant connection that you can create with someone without saying a word, that feeling that you create instantly without knowing why. It is rare to meet those people with whom you could even stay hours without talking, but with whom you would still understand only through body language. Although this collaboration is new and the two have never met, they were able to create something unique and energetic, reminding all of us of the beauty of a carefree night in the disco!

YMX: Hey REBEL MUZIK, thanks for sitting down with us. What would you say to all our readers new to your project?

REBEL MUZIK: Hey everyone, my name is Rebel and I’m a DJ/Music producer originally from Trinidad & Tobago now based in the USA (New York) This latest release was produced by me, written and performed by the extremely talented KNVWN. We blended the sounds of the Caribbean with some modern pop and electronic sounds that now became ‘Body Language”

YMX: When did you know that music was something you wanted to pursue at an artistic level?

REBEL MUZIK: I always knew that music was going to be a part of my life, that’s why I became a Dj at a young age (14) but it wasn’t till 2012 that I decided that I wanted to create music instead of just playing it.

YMX: You recently released Body language. Can you tell us how that project came about?

REBEL MUZIK: When I made the beat, I knew I wanted it to be a tropical fusion but unfortunately I’m not a songwriter so I started to shop it around to different writers and got a few good demos but when I heard KNVWN’s demo it immediately stuck with me and I knew that was the one!

YMX: What is the one thing you would like people to feel while listening to the single?

REBEL MUZIK: I just want people to feel a sense of joy and happiness

YMX: How did the recent pandemic influence your creative process? is remote collaboration easy for you?

REBEL MUZIK: The recent pandemic changed my whole outlook on life and music, pre covid all I did was Caribbean music (Soca, Reggae, Dancehall) and when we went into lockdown almost all my projects that were supposed to happen didn’t! depressed and sad I had to find an away to continue doing what I loved so I joined a bunch of Facebook groups and started to network with artists of different genres and it really opened up my mind to try different music, since May 2020 I released 5 electronic/pop records that I am super proud of, something I might have never done if the world was normal.

YMX: Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

REBEL MUZIK: When building the music, I prefer to be alone, this way I can just zone out without any distractions, but when we have writing sessions it’s usually a team of talented writers bringing different ideas and perspectives to the table

YMX: Can you name the last gig you played? Would you consider doing a livestream concert?

REBEL MUZIK: My last gig as Dj was Trinidad & Tobago Carnival 2020 but I’m all geared up to do a few livestreams coming soon!

YMX: Finally, what are your plans for the future?

REBEL MUZIK: Hopefully in a few months we can get back to live music again so I have some gigs lined up if we do but other than that I’m going to keep releasing a few singles this year and hopefully drop an EP or an ALbum in the future
