We had already hosted Untold Poet on our pages last year, for the release of his previous single ‘Have You Heard It’, an emotion-drenched piece that proves itself relevant both lyrically and musically. Today, the British rapper returns with a new laidback and meaningful track, ‘Don’t Understand’, setting the tone for a crucial year for Untold Poet, after getting nominated ‘Sound of 2021’ by BBC Introducing Essex.
A rapper and a songwriter, Untold Poet can boast a former appearance in the band ‘New Subjects’, alongside live show support to the likes of The 1975 and Labrinth. His style has been growing over the years, influenced by major artists, such as Drake, Kano, the Streets and Bon Iver, helping him develop a cross-genre attitude that spans across R’n’B, spoken-words and rap.
‘Don’t Understand’ is a pleasant surprise, showcasing the maturity Untold Poet has reached over the years. A jazzy-infused, bouncy instrumental perfectly highlights the British MC’s precise and unapologetic vocals, boasting a flow equally comfortable in rap and spoken words. Lyrically, the track is the synthesis of all the inequalities and negativities society brings with her, “leaving you at the end with a question of his own, “This world man, I just don’t understand it. Do you?”
