j. pastel returns with slow-jam goodness: ‘Strawberry Lemonade’

We have already hosted American duo j. pastel on our blog, in occasion of their previous single ‘Senegal’, an 80s-infused gem catching the attention of many in the industry. Because of that, we were very eager to receive their new single, ‘Strawberry Lemonade’, an exceptionally well-crafted ballad, edging on the border between electronica and classic pop.

Formed last year in Chicago, j. pastel is the collaboration between Chase Durrett and Casey Bruce, both proficient musicians and songwriters. ‘Strawberry Lemonade’ is building up toward an EP, which, judging from their past, is set to further advance j. pastel successfully rise.

And it wouldn’t be any other way. ‘Strawberry Lemodane’ is a gentle, classic chill-out number, still caring the duo’s signature bedroom-pop aesthetic. Build with a certain bluesy flavour, the guitar riffing recalls a different era, while the drums taste like Steve Jordan’s material, in a triumphal contemporary sauce. What’s not to like?

The impression is that Durrett and Bruce are moving forward, delivering a better product at every release. We can’t wait for what’s next!
