YMX: Hey Saijan, thanks for talking to us. How have these gloomy times been treating you?
Saijan: Thank you for having me. To be honest, it’s been quite an up and down battle but I have been finding ways to keep myself productive and motivated during this time. I think that’s all we can do really.
YMX: How did you decide music was something you wanted to pursue? Are there any particular episodes that inspired you in doing so?
Saijan: I know it sounds cliché, but music has always been a part of me from as far back as I can remember. it really just took me some time to finally accept this is what I am meant to be doing. I guess it’s one of those things that just gives me joy and I look to transfer that energy to anyone that listens to my music.
YMX: Here’s a fun game: name 3 artists, or bands, that inspire you and influence your work, and explain why:
Saijan: Bob Marley- for the love, peace and unity he promotes with his music. Which is why to me, some of his songs will forever be ever green. As these are factors that are constant and needed in every generation.
Lil Wayne- for his impact on rap music. you can disagree with me, but the guy basically changed the way everyone flowed of beats. His influence gave birth to the likes of Future, Migos and many more.
Sikiru Ayinde Barrister- An afro Fuji Legend. I grew up listening to his music through my parents. His word play and knowledge is just amazing to listen to.
YMX: You recently released “BANG”. Can you tell us how that project came about?
Saijan: Yes so I just dropped my a single title BANG. This song was really me experimenting with new sounds. My goal was to bring an afrobeat vibe to a UKG audience while also giving afrobeat listeners different taste. I feel this song speaks for itself on that.
YMX: How did the pandemic affect your personal music recording experience? Was it easy adjusting to working remotely?
Saijan: It’s been alright so far really, I find my self doing more Zoom meetings though. Adapting to it all day by day.
YMX: Professional livestreams seem to be really taking over these days. Is it something you would consider doing?
YMX: Since pandemic began, online music promotion has become crucial for an artist’s growth. How important is that for you, and are there any strategies you are willing to share with our readers?
Saijan: This is an area I believe I’m still adapting to and finding ways to improve on. At the same time, I am also a strong believer that good music travels far.
YMX: Finally, what are your plans for the future? (releases, gigs etc.)
Saijun: More music.
