Pat Girondi and The Orphan’s Return – I Did My Best Interview

Patrick Girondi, originally from the South Side of Chicago, is an Italian-American singer-songwriter, author and founder of a gene therapy company. A true jack-of-all-trades, Patrick has released five albums, published a book, and has led his company Errant Gene Therapeutics since 2003, with the mission of curing Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia. Back with their second single off the album ‘Orphan’s Return’ – Pat Girondi & The Orphans Dream give us “I Did My Best”. Let’s hear from Pat!

YMX: Hey Pat Girondi, thanks for sitting down with us. What would you say to all our readers new to your project?

Pat Girondi: It’s stories, skits, songs and experiences about a road through the Orphan (Rare) Disease woods.

YMX: When did you know that music was something you wanted to pursue at an artistic level?

Pat Girondi: I’m not an artist. I’m just an ugly little Italian American man living in Italy and trying to be effective with the very limited time slotted.

YMX: You recently released “I Did My Best”. Can you tell us how that project came about?

Pat Girondi: My albums are all a piece of a mystical voyage, full of poets and pirates, saviors and salesmen. Orphan’s Soul, Voyage, Hope, Cure and Orphan’s Return are chapters in a musical book…

YMX: What is the one thing you would like people to feel while listening to the album?

Pat Girondi: I would like people to understand that it’s alright, we are limited. Love is limitless. Anger burns the house in which it dwells and laughing love puts out the flames. My songs are often, ironic, sardonic, sarcastic, crass and rude. That’s why they give you the taste of truth. Life is all those things.

YMX: How did the recent pandemic influence your creative process? is remote collaboration easy for you?

Pat Girondi: Disease, viruses and vaccines are a part of life. Watching the Eurocrats and the corporate owned media herding the sheep has been entertaining-to say the least. ‘Absence makes the heart grow fonder.’ I can’t wait to perform again.

YMX: Do you feel more confident writing music alone, or within a team?

Definitely a team. The team who stimulated thoughts, the team who help put thoughts into words and of course the team that put those words to music. I greatly thank my 6th grade English teacher, ‘Miss Kinney.’ She said I was a writer when most others had less opinions. She’s a part of the team for sure… may she Rest In Peace.

YMX: Can you name the last gig you played? Would you consider doing a livestream concert?

*Mo’e’ in Altamura, Bari, Italy… mainstream would be interesting and probably fun. I’d be game, but there are other performers. I think they’d be alright with it as well.8 – Finally, what are your plans for the future? (releases, gigs etc.) *We’re working on album 6, ‘Orphan’s Resurrection.’ It will likely take more than 3 days.
