DREUW is Andrew Burke, Indie folk Singer-Songwriter based in Leeds.
“Heavy” is his first release since 2018; a song that is an emotive and haunting sound. ‘Heavy’ is written from the standpoint of an individual trying to endure supporting the mental health of his other half, to the detriment of his own. Recently, we celebrated #mentalhealth week and we thought it was important to feature such a track:
‘The attentiveness shown from society on those who suffer with mental health is hugely important, as it should be, yet we sometimes forget to consider the weight that it can place onto those closest to them.’
‘I guess it’s a feeling of isolation and helplessness that is consuming the romantic partner in this instance. They’re yearning for a sign that the love once there is not lost.’
Through writing and performing, the now Leeds-based artist has continued to use his music to communicate with honesty, reflection and recovery; demonstrating the intimacy and tenderness of his experiences through a raw, yet ethereal, delivery that has been compared to the likes of RY X, Matt Corby and Bon Iver.
Having merited repeated appearances at Sofar Sounds events, a feature on BBC introducing in the West and a nomination by London’s Resonance FM for Glastonbury’s Talent Longlist in 2017, Dreuw has also managed to secure a number of support slots, throughout his career, where he has played alongside artists including Adam Barnes, Roe, Wildes and Archie Faulks.
His earlier singles have encouraged the artist to begin working towards the maturation of his sound to both draw parallels to and echo the development he has since undergone as an artist. Vocalising his journey from the perspective of his innermost thoughts, Dreuw’s new material explores the highs and lows of relationships with both himself and others, expressing discoveries from love and togetherness, to the anxieties and pressures of keeping things afloat.
